In-House Whitening

What is in house whitening?

This is a chair side tooth whitening process to lighten discoloration of enamel and dentin. A tooth whitening is a cost-effective way to enjoy the benefits of cosmetic dentistry.

What causes my teeth to become discolored?

There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc. During the formation of teeth, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.

Does it hurt?

With teeth whitening some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity during treatment and 24 hours afterwards. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider teeth whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. During the teeth whitening procedure, patients may listen to music.

What does it involve?

After teeth are prepped for whitening, a whitening gel is applied to the teeth. Advanced Power light-activated teeth whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The tooth whitening light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth which accelerates the whitening process.

How long does the procedure take?

The complete teeth whitening procedure takes just over an hour. The tooth whitening begins with a preparation period followed by 1 hour of whitening. A cleaning is recommended prior to the actual teeth whitening session.

What will my tooth look like after treatment?

Over-the-counter teeth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. In house tooth whitening is clinically proven to whiten your teeth several shades in 1 hour. Only a dentist can get your teeth this white, this fast.

How long will this process last?

By following some simple post teeth whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend wearing bleach trays for 3-4 days after the in house whitening, as well as flossing, brushing twice daily and occasional touch-ups with take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest and available through our office.
