Meet Dr. Jonelle Stovall
After completing her degree in Computer Science, Dr. Jonelle Stovall went on to UNC Chapel Hill to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and later completed a general practice residency at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.
Community service has always been a part of Dr. Stovall's life. While in dental school, she participated in the annual Malawi service project, which aims to provide free dental care, supplies and education on HIV/AIDS in Malawi, Africa. Dr. Jonelle Stovall has been on service trips to Honduras, St. Croix, and New Orleans, as well as worked with several Mission of Mercy free dental clinics throughout the state of North Carolina.
In addition to these clinics, Dr. Stovall also worked with our homeless veterans in Philadelphia by participating in Project Stand Down and can be seen quite often working on the traveling Colgate Bus.
Our Dental Services
Dental Cleanings
Dr. Stovall integrates thorough oral cancer screenings into routine dental examinations at Stovall Dental. During these screenings, she carefully examines the lips, tongue, cheeks, throat, and neck for any unusual tissue changes, persistent sores, or suspicious growths.
These painless screenings help identify early warning signs, such as white or red patches, unexplained bleeding, numbness, and difficulty swallowing. This proactive approach not only provides patients with peace of mind but also allows for early intervention when treatment outcomes are most favorable.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is an effective treatment for severely damaged or infected teeth, utilizing advanced endodontic techniques. The procedure involves accessing the infected pulp chamber, followed by a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the root canals. After the cleaning process, the space is sealed with biocompatible materials to alleviate pain and prevent future infection.
With the use of local anesthesia, modern root canal treatment is designed to be comfortable for patients, and successfully treated teeth can function normally for a lifetime. This therapy serves as a conservative alternative to tooth extraction, preserving natural teeth whenever possible.
Dental Fillings
Cavities can lead to far worse outcomes if left untreated. Dr. Stovall offers tooth-colored dental fillings, or composite fillings to stop tooth decay before it gets worse. These fillings are made from a mixture of plastic resin and finely ground glass particles that can be precisely matched to the natural color of your teeth, making them virtually invisible when placed skillfully.
Composite fillings require less removal of healthy tooth structure, bond directly to the tooth to provide strength, and don’t expand and contract with temperature changes like metal fillings do, reducing the risk of cracks developing over time.
Oral Cancer Screenings
An oral cancer screening can save your life, and you don’t need to book an extra appointment for it! Dr. Stovall can screen for signs of oral cancer whilst examining your mouth for signs of dental decay. Be sure to ask about performing one during your next appointment.
Mouth Guards
If you or your child are involved in sports, a mouth guard may be necessary to protect their teeth and jaw. Dr. Stovall strongly recommends a mouth guard to keep your mouth protected and prevent dental trauma.
Night Guards
Do you wake up with a sore jaw? Do you often find yourself grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw? Night guards can protect your teeth from damage caused by bruxism.
